Anyone can make a will by meeting the requirements of the Wills Act 2007 (outlined on the website above) - there is no need to "make an application for a will to be made", as such.
The Public Trust offers certain customers a free service for making wills, if they name the Public Trust as an executor. You can find out if you're eligible for this free service at www.publictrust.co.nz
It is a good idea to seek professional assistance from a lawyer when making a will. A lawyer can provide legal advice regarding your will and the property it deals with and can help in drafting the will. It is particularly important to seek professional advice if the property you're leaving is significant in value or complicated in nature, or if you plan to leave it to a wide range of people and organisations.
It's a good idea to call around and get an idea of what various lawyers charge before selecting one - fees vary from lawyer to lawyer and according to how complicated your needs are.
