Does the renovation company who is redecorating my bathroom have the right to refuse to provide something which is included in the quote I was given?

Question Details: I'm having my bathroom redecorated by a renovation company and was given a quote which states: "electrician: to provide new switches and power points where required, inline fan/venting, down lights (6)". Now I'm told the lights are not included in the price quoted since they could not know which type I would have selected, although it was stated from the beginning that we would have gone for down lights, which are also shown in the design that the company provided after their first site visit. Do I have to buy the lights myself or can I ask the company to provide them?

If the quote formed a part of the contract (that is, if the quote was an offer that you accepted), then yes. You will need to consider what other information forms part of the contract, for example if you signed a later document which was different or excluded the quote, or if the quote itself carried any qualifications.

If you cannot resolve this with the renovation company, you may be able to use the Dispute Tribunal, but we would suggest first formally approaching the company by giving them a letter setting out your complaint.
