You should check your written tenancy agreement to see whether it states who is responsible for trees maintenance.

If your agreement doesn’t say, tree maintenance is usually the landlord’s responsibility.

If you do want to remove or prune a tree, you should first obtain your landlord’s consent. Note that, you will then usually be responsible for clearing away any branches etc left behind as a result of the removal or trimming, in line with your duty to remove all rubbish from the property.
