If an employee is successful under a personal grievance action against their employer, they may receive the following types of financial compensation:
Reimbursement for lost wages or money
Compensation for:
- The way in which the employee is affected personally (such as humiliation, loss of dignity, or injury to feelings)
- the loss of any benefits that the employee might have expected if the grievance had not arisen

The Employment Relations Authority or Employment Court has discretion as to how much financial compensation is given. There does not seem to be a maximum limit. To see statistics on how much compensation has been awarded in the past, click on this link: www.dol.govt.nz
