What steps must an employer take for a suspension to be legally effective?

Question Details: My employer has suspended me over the phone, after only giving me 5 minutes warning. The suspension was then confirmed by letter 8 hours later. Is this legal?

This depends on the terms of your employment agreement and the nature of the issue. Your agreement may contain an ability to suspend you on pay (known as “garden leave”). Your agreement may also contain a suspension process. We suggest you should check your agreement and seek further legal advice.
