Question Details: In the mid to late 1960s I was a young impressionable boy and I was sexually molested by my adopted parent. I have never spoken about it until now and I need to know if it is too late to take action against the individual involved. I am not seeking any kind of financial gain, but I do believe that the individual needs to be made responsible for his actions. Am I too late?

There is no limitation period for serious offences in the Crimes Act 1961 (including many forms of sexual abuse), so you can still report the abuse to the Police. You are not too late.

You may find it helpful to have additional support when you take action. Support for male survivors is available from many of the groups listed here: rpe.co.nz and there are also male-specific support groups: www.survivor.org.nz.
If it was Child Welfare who placed you with your adoptive parent, you may also be able to use the Confidential Listening and Assistance Service: www.listening.govt.nz.
